About me

My name is Mary, I live in Dublin.
I love making. I'm happiest when I have a dozen projects on the go.
I enjoy - embroidery and beading, knitting and felting and generally playing with textiles.
I especially love antique lace and vintage textiles that have a history.
They deserve to be re-invented and given a new life.
Edwardian and Victorian style has also been a strong influence in my designing.

I like to make complex pieces with lots of beading, stitches and layers,
but also simpler designs with small pieces of lace .  .  .  .
.  .  .   or some beads / buttons /charms / embroidered threads.

I love commissions to make bespoke items with special meaning for people,
such as incorporating family heirloom scraps of fabric for bridal pendants.

Each piece in my Etsy shop is made with care by me, and by its nature each is unique.

Back History:

I have always loved textiles.
I graduated from NCAD (National College of Art and Design) in Dublin,
and have worked as a Graphic Designer for many years. (no age telling here!)
However I always managed to keep textiles in my life.
I had wonderful fun designing my own knitwear label “Molly Lamb” and from time to time some themes I worked with became small textile art collections. These hanging pieces were shown and sold in galleries around Ireland.
I was delighted to reach the final of the Irish Designer of the Year on three different occasions with my knitwear and also won two RDS (Royal Dublin Society) craft award medals and an RDS trophy. My knitwear designs always had a strong element of embroidery.

My collections were shelved for awhile as I graphic designed -  but I have returned to textiles with Cuffs and Jewellery in QueenofCuffs on etsy.

This blog was born to help me get a better sense of direction and find out more about the art I like to make. Sometimes by explaining to others you explain to yourself.
